Do you need routine, non-urgent health advice? Try Online Consult (click on the above button to learn more). Online Consult is NOT for urgent health concerns. Online queries should be submitted during normal working hours ONLY. If you have an urgent health concern, please CALL the surgery.

Outside of normal working hours – you will be notified who to call for advice.

All Online Consults will be reviewed by one of our clinical staff, if this is triaged as routine, you will be offered the next available routine appointment for the correct health professional (this may be after 2 working days from you submitting your online enquiry.)

We realise that problems sometimes arise unexpectedly; therefore we have several appointments each session which are reserved for the day. If your problem is URGENT, please explain to the receptionists who will arrange for a message to be sent to the doctor.

If you have a new injury you should go to Accident and Emergency at the hospital for treatment. The Surgery does not have the equipment to treat acute injuries.

Routine Appointment

  • Book an appointment online with SystmOnline via the link at the top of this page
  • Use an Online Consult form as above
  • Phone us on 01204 462929 Monday to Friday, 8am to 6.30pm
  • Visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us we may offer you a consultation:

  • By phone
  • Face to face at the surgery
  • On a video call
  • By text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means the doctor or nurse can help you sooner.

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

Tel: 01204 462929

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

If you need help when we are closed

If you require urgent medical assistance outside normal surgery hours please ring 0161 763 8940 which will give you clear instructions of who to contact.

You can also get medical help now by using NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • If you need an interpreter
  • If you have any other access or communication needs

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10am on 01204 462930. Only Urgent problems telephoned in after 10am will be seen on the same day.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Enhanced Access Service

From 1 October, there will be some small changes to the appointments that we make available for our patients during the evenings and weekends. These changes are being made to ensure we meet the requirements set by NHS England. We have worked closely with Bolton GP Federation (who provide these appointments on our behalf) to make sure they meet your needs too.

What’s the same:

We will still provide evening and weekend appointments for you during the following times:

  • Monday to Friday, 6:30pm to 9:30pm
  • Saturdays 9am to 5pm

The Enhanced Access Team is made up of lots of different specialists, that have been specially selected to meet patients’ needs, and appointments will be booked for with the most appropriate clinician, which could include a GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, Health Care Assistant, Mental Health Practitioner or Physiotherapist.

Patients will be offered the choice of both face-to-face and telephone appointments.

What’s different:

Our patients will be able to access face-to-face appointments closer to home at Halliwell Surgery.

Bank holiday appointments will no longer be provided by this service. However, should you need support from a GP on a Bank Holiday, you can still contact the out of hours service on 0161 763 8940 or the 111 service.

Practice receptionists will ensure that patients needing this service can access the available appointments. To book an appointment, patients should contact their GP practice.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.
